DO: Be careful & private

Online privacy is a very important issue in this type of era of internet. The amount of hacks that have been occurring including celebrities is a big issue. When using the internet, the first concern you should have is whether what you are doing is protecting your identity, and respecting your privacy. Many privacy and internet web browsing issues are not regulated, and many users are not made aware about the risks and how to prevent mistakes on the internet. Users need to be made aware that every move they make online is recorded, unfortunately not everyone knows this and it is frightening to know what can go wrong. There are cookie trackers in your system which are likely to be multiplied by 2016.
These invisible tracking agents are called “cookies” and not many users know that these agents keep track of their every move. Users need to understand that anything that is put online can be accessed by anyone, anytime and anywhere. True protection will only occur when users finally understand that everything they put online can be tracked.

Does this change your opinion on electronic media?
What would you recommend people to do to maintain their privacy?

DO NOT: Cyberbully

Cyberbullying is becoming more of an issue as technology continues to improve. Over 40% of teens have experienced cyberbullying, sadly this number is very high and will continue to increase if we don’t take any action. Children need to learn about cyberbullying both in school and at home so that when they grow up, they will know what not to do while using electronic media. Cyberbullying is very bad and in some cases it even leads to self-harm and suicide. What do bullies gain when they bully people online or in real life? Nothing.

I had a friend in grade 11 whose best friend committed suicide because he was cyberbullied. Cyberbullying does not only affect the person who is being bullied, the person’s friends, family members are affected too just not as directly as the victim. If actions are taken before this event can occur, cyberbullying can be reduced significantly, or hopefully even stopped completely.

Have you ever experienced cyberbullying or taken any steps to prevent it?

DO: Double check everything

Many of us have bought stuff online and most of the times we were satisfied with the product but there is always a risk in buying online. One time I bought a Cardigan from China and I made my mother measure me to determine what size I was; when I received the package, it was not the size the person told me it would be and to return the item, I would have had to pay twice as much money as what the item cost me. This shows how scary it can be to buy stuff online. The item you receive will not always be what you are expecting. Also, buying items online will not always be the right quality, and it can always cause you to lose your money. Due to my bad experience, I have made sure to buy stuff online by double checking if it is the right item and also who the seller is.

Have you experienced the same thing as me? What websites would you recommend to us?

DO: Use Applicable Grammar, Spelling and Punctuation

Using appropriate grammar, spelling and punctuation is key when posting, or even writing and fulfilling specific business tasks. Good grammar, spelling and punctuation can improve your communication by increasing clarification. Many young individuals in today's society, have a very bad habit of using various slang words when writing and speaking. Grammar refers to using the right verbs, tenses, and rules. Whereas spelling refers to writing all the letters of a word correctly. Punctuation is using the correct commas, semi colons, periods and annotations in a professional manner.

The best way to avoid any mistakes when writing and posting on electronic media is to follow 3 easy steps:
1.) Rough Draft: This is your first draft, where all your thoughts and ideas are written. This includes researching.
2.) Revising/Editing: Once your rough draft is done, editing is the next step. In this step looking at grammar, spelling and punctuation is necessary.
3.) Developing a good copy: Once you are done editing, make all the new changes to your rough draft, and your final paper is produced.

Therefore, by completing these three steps before posting your article or post on any electronic media, will allow you to be a successful writer.

Ads in Electronic Media

Advertising is a huge part of Electronic Media and do any of you know how many ads you are exposed by on a daily basis? You might think it is in the hundreds but no, 5,000 and yes this is the real number. When was the last time you remember looking at any sport events without any ads in them or just even listening to the radio while you commute, most probably a long time ago.The fact that advertisings are everywhere this means that there must have some regulations as to what extent companies can go to sell their products/services. For example:

This is an example of some that you cannot do. No ads are so important that they need to promote crime along with their product. What they could show instead is maybe something that makes people think and want to clean their hands before they eat or put their hands in their mouths as their hands are most probably covered in bacteria, for example this:

This is a better ad than the one before even though it is pretty gross but it is more effective and it is more realistic.
Is advertising the best way to promote business?
If not then in what other ways could/should businesses be promoted?
